Immigration
|
|
We begin an exciting journey as we travel back in time to the 1800s to experience what it was like to be an immigrant coming to Minnesota. The students will learn about the largest groups of immigrants that came to Minnesota in the late 19th century and settled in the Cloquet area. These groups include the Swedish, Norwegians, the Finnish, and Germans. Students will work in "families" of 2 or 3 and experience the journey immigrants made beginning at their home country, traveling to Ellis Island, and then settling in Minnesota. At the end of the unit, the groups of students will choose from one of three possible projects to share their learning which include creating a timeline, PowerPoint, or play about their experiences. The students will learn about some of the people that made the Cloquet area home.
